Understanding the Startup Support System in India

Four Institutions play very vital roles for startups:

  1. Incubator
  2. Accelerator
  3. Startup Mentors/Advisors
  4. Angel Investors

First contact point for Startup is Incubator. Do you have any creative ideas ? they will provide you support like place, tech , administration , financial . Help in your early ideation phase and production development phase.

If you have identified a problem, they will help you in building a solution and business model . Help to identify feasibility of product and services . Startup has to identify business viability during this stage.

You will get access to their network . Important part for a startup is to get practical knowledge . How to execute transactions. My interaction with startup founders and Institutions are really good . They really help other founders . You will get access to Industry leaders.

Incubators help to connect with angel investors and VC . They guide you for various seed funding schemes .

Incubators at Premier Institutes:

There are famous Incubators in India which are run by well known Institute like IITs and IIMs . State & Central Government Institutes like CIIE (at IIM – Ahmedabad ), I-hub CIE (IIIT – H) , T-Hub etc.

There are private incubators too .

ICAI Startup Gateway:

Further there is the ICAI Startup Gateway .The ICAI Startup Gateway is an initiative by Committee on MSME & Startup of ICAI to promote entrepreneurship and thereby facilitate practical application of knowledge for public use.

Recently I got an opportunity to visit CIIE at IIM Ahmedabad to attend the Startup Growth Networking Meetup. It was organised by eChai Ventures and Jatin Chaudhary

CIIE is a Centre of Excellence backed by Government of India’s DST.  It was incorporated as technology business incubator in FY 2007-08 and later on diversified into entrepreneurship research and publications, accelerators, venture funds, learning tools, innovation partnerships, and a lot more. You can visit their website CCIE.co for more information .
